NEWS RELEASE

WHAT:  “City of Kent Skate Park Lions Den” Ground Breaking & Info

WHERE:  Between James Street and Smith Street

The Ground Breaking Celebration for the City of Kent Skate Park Lions Den is to be held on August 7th, at 10:30 a.m.  Mayor Jim White, Members of the Kent City Council, local officials and dignitaries, along with members of the Kent Lions Club will join in special ceremonies to break ground and celebrate the construction of our new Skate Park.

Construction of the downtown Skaters Park will now progress with a contribution of $32,300 from the Kent Lions Club.  The Kent Lions will pay 1/3rd of the amount up front, with the total being paid over a three year time period.   Money for this project will come from local Kent Lions Club fund-raisers, including the Kent Cornucopia Days, which is a Kent Lions Club community project.  The Kent Lions will also establish new fund-raisers, some in conjunction with the youth who will be utilizing the new Skate Park, in order to pay off the balance of the contribution.

The members of the Kent Lions Club are all volunteers who dedicate their lives in order to serve others in the local community.  Members, in fact, pay dues in order to serve the community and receive no pay in return.  The contribution of $32,300 to the Skate Park is a new arena for the Kent Lions Club, committing to a large project that will depend on the members to “work their butts off” over the next three years to raise the necessary funds to complete this worthy project.

Nearly 250 non-profit or charitable organizations depend on the very existence of the Kent Lions Club and its community projects.
